What to expect from these three traditional Sunday markets of Gran Canaria?
Come and discover the three best street markets of Gran Canaria on a relaxed and enjoyable Sunday morning. Each of the three markets you will visit has its own flavour and style. What’s more, all three are located in towns that are well worth a visit.
The first market you will visit is the one in the village of Santa Brigida, located in the north of the island. This market is famous for its local agricultural products, fresh fruit and vegetables from the region, lovingly presented by its producers, in a recreational shopping centre just a few steps from the old town of Santa Brigida, which has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest.
The second market is the one in La Vega de San Mateo. An intimate market located in a pavilion next to the centre of the town, the offer is varied, from cheeses, handicrafts, honey, fruit and vegetables, pastries, wine, most of them coming from the fertile environment of this area. It is also interesting to stroll through the streets or visit the church.
Finally, the Teror street market. One of the oldest street markets on the island with more than 200 years of history, it is located in the open air in the Plaza de la Basílica Del Pino and the surrounding area, a must on Sundays for locals and tourists alike. In its stalls, we can find everything: rake, sausages, textiles, vegetables, wine, cheese, fruit, pastries, souvenirs, etc… We also recommend a stroll through the historic centre of the town, one of the most emblematic of Gran Canaria.
At the end of this excursion, you will undoubtedly have a better general knowledge of the products of the Canary Islands and its inland villages.
